Play was halted during the clash between and on Friday night after a pitch invader entered the fray during the dying moments of the match. The supporter was quickly stopped in their tracks by a swarm of security guards in the Red Devils' half, with referee Chris Kavanagh stopping play after spotting the intruder.

The individual, donning a Chelsea shirt and blue shirts, raced onto the pitch with the clock approaching the 98th minute, prompting a handful of alert stewards to storm the pitch and bring them to the deck. One steward then appeared to spear the pitch invader to the ground, much to the amusement of the home crowd.

The individual was then dragged off of the pitch, being jeered along the way by the jubilant Chelsea faithful, who were in good spirits after watching their side take a major step towards football thanks to Marc Cucurella's goal in the 71st minute.

After a great piece of individual skill by Reece James down the right, the England international stood a teasing cross up at the back post for the Spaniard to power home from close range. Enzo Maresca's side then showed maturity beyond their years to close out the game, keeping United pinned inside their own half and unable to build any sort of momentum as they searched for an equaliser.

Speaking about his side's performance to Sky Sports, Maresca said: "It was quite confident because I know how difficult it is to play against United. We expected a very tough game. They played very well. I was completely confident, overall, it was a game that we could have a good moment and score a goal.

"I used to watch five, six, seven games when we play against a team. I have never watched them [United] so aggressive - they were man to man, and it was very difficult. Off the ball I think we played a fantastic game. The team was very aggressive until the end, we tried to press higher, and I think we deserved to win the game. It is nice to work on some solutions and then you score."

The victory sees move back into fourth place in the Premier League, reclaiming the position from Aston Villa following their 2-0 win over Tottenham earlier in the evening.

The Blues will face on the final day of the season, just a few days before they take on Real Betis in the Europa Conference League final.
