Transport Minister further said that the purpose of these border squares, established in 1966, was to control the movement of vehicles, ensure transport rules and recover the road tax. However, due to the implementation of the GST and the progress in digital implementation measures, the need for these border outposts established for direct inquiry is no longer required.

In this regard, Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari had directed the Transport Department in Maharashtra. However, due to the decision to close the check post, the concerned organization must pay Rs 504 crore for compensation. A proposal in this regard has been sent by the Department of Transport to the Chief Minister’s Office. As soon as their approval is received, all the inspections on the border will be stopped. This was informed by Minister Sarnaik.
