Food delivery app Zomato has decided to implement surcharge even during the rainy days, making a significant change in its gold membership plan. Earlier Gold users were exempted from this additional charge, but now it will not happen. This new rule has become effective from 16 May. The company gave information about this change to the users through in-app notification, which said: “Surcharge will not be waived during the rain from 16 May. It will no longer be a part of your gold benefits.”
Zomato says that in bad weather, especially in rain, delivery partners have a lot of difficulty in working. In such a situation, they will be able to give better stages with additional charge. However, at the moment the company has not clarified how much this surcharge will be.
This decision can see resentment among Zomato Gold Members, as earlier they used to get delivery even during the rainy season. Significantly, this change has been made at a time when the company also temporarily stopped its 50:50 refund sharing policy, causing a stir in the restaurant industry.
Swiggy already collects surcharge from all users during rainy days, whether they are subscribers or not. In such a situation, this trend can now be common on all major food delivery platforms.
However, other benefits under Zomato Gold will remain unchanged, such as free delivery within 7 kilometers and a discount of up to 30% on some restaurants. But users who repeatedly order will have to spend more during the rain.

ZOMATO has identified some selected partner restaurants with “Free Delivery” tag, which gives the benefit of unlimited free delivery to gold members. However, brands such as Domino’s, which operate their own delivery service, are not included in this list.
Zomato is already charging additional charge in the festive season. The company says that these fees are necessary to meet operational expenses and maintain service during festivals.
